This book describes suggestions for organizing classroom space, time and routines to encourage positive behavior in the classroom. More than a list of rules, (although they are important), this book offers strategies for designing and implementing classroom management techniques and dealing with problem behaviors.

I bought this book along with the one for middle and high school. Both books are good, but you just need one of the two depending on what level you intend to teach. In other words, buy the one that talks about the level you want to teach.

Dark and absorbing

Mark and Deb are in their 40s and their marriage is on the rocks. Deb has a drinking problem. Mark has a big crush on their neighbor Karen. Deb thinks they're having an affair, but meanwhile she is having an affair with Owen, age 18, who is also carrying on with Karen's daughter Elana, who is best friends with Deb's daughter Riley. And that's just the first few chapters.....a combustible situation as it is, add to that the fact that there are a couple of extremely disturbed people involved. Things turn very dark very quickly.

I liked the author's style of writing, he's equally good at conveying the thoughts of males and females, adults and teens. His dialogue is authentic and convincing. There are only a few things I'd have changed: we know whodunit pretty early on, so we are just waiting for the denouement. While it is engaging and gripping, there are no twists and turns, no surprises, nothing new revealed at the end. the pace is a bit uneven as well, there's quite a long section about 2/3 in of Karen's indignation when her workmates make assumptions, and then more when the police make assumptions, again when the reporters do, and when her ex-husband does, and when Mark does....whereas the book wraps up in a bit of a hurry, and the exciting climax is pretty short.

I have a feeling this is one of those cases where an author is famous enough that not much editorial work is done, and in this case there are some glaring mistakes.
"His teeth grinded." Pretty sure that isn't even a word.
"She saw the blinds on the living room window rustle." Pretty sure that is a noise. An invisible one.
"Her lower teeth tore into her gums...." I'm trying this. I don't think it's possible.
"She went into the teacher's bathroom, where she lost it, balling hysterically." Ummmm......no.

had to laugh because one of the characters is repeatedly described as looking like Javier Bardem...then I got to the author's photo in the back of the book.....and he looks like Javier Bardem.

This book is just plain bad

If you’re anything like me, sometimes you just need a mindless, fast-paced page-turner. I knew more or less what I was getting myself into when I picked this up, but I didn’t expect it to be so…bad.

I often enjoy books that examine the dark underside of domestic suburban life - Tom Perrotta comes to mind - but this is like if you took a book like that and stripped it of anything intelligent or thought-provoking. Any semblance of attempted satire is obscured by its utter silliness.

The characters are one-dimensional cliches whose actions are so delusional and unbelievable that it’s hard to keep reading. In fact, I’m not even sure why I stuck with it. Maybe for the same reason I’ll sometimes get sucked into watching a Lifetime movie.

It’s a fast, easy read, so it’s hard to feel too resentful toward it, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

A True Classic in Mint Condition

I read this book several time over my lifetime and have always gotten some profound impact on my thinking and inner self. I wanted the book in my little library of book that have made a difference in my life. Books I can always read again and share with younger family members and friends. The book was in very good condition with jacket too. There was a message on first page to wish someone a happy birthday in 2015 but unfortunately it appears that the book was never read. Peace

Never give up

I came by Jonathan Livingston Seagull by means of my father who often spoke highly of the book and how it had left a great impact on him in high school. Despite these frequent references to the text I never sought out a copy of the book until now. Recently I (age 20) went to the beach with my father where upon looking at the gulls he began reminiscing on the text one more. This time when he brought the book up something inside me ticked and that was all the motivation I needed to pick up my own copy of Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

The novella tells the story of Jonathan Livingston, a young, brash seagull who constantly defies his flock's traditions in a quest to become the fastest seagull who ever lived. He is expelled from the flock for his behavior, but this doesn't break his spirits. Jonathan ascends to a higher state of being to join the few other gulls who sought speed same as he did. From here Jonathan returns to the gulls yet to achieve this state of nirvana and helps guide them on the path to self-perfection. Keep in mind that all of this happens over the course of a mere 111 pages (a good portion of which happen to be pictures).

From the moment I opened the book I was in love. As a college student I can see why Bach's novel took the world by storm when it was first published. The story of Jonathan Livingston Seagull is contagiously inspirational, easily winning me over. It is a fable for the modern era that overwhelms the senses with its high-soaring optimism and the idea that any barrier --even death-- is only one imagined by the individual on the road to self-perfection. So profound was the impact of this short little novella that when I finished the text I set it down and thought. For almost an hour I just sat on my bed and thought over the ideas I'd just been presented to; how the tale of a seagull had touched something deep within me. It was pure magic the likes of which few books have kindled within me. Reading the book once turned out not to be enough, and I found myself downloading a copy to my Kindle so that I'd have continued access to it on-the-go.

I sincerely believe everyone could learn from this modern fable. Same as with most books that can be categorized as spiritual or inspirational not everyone will likely be impacted the same way. Some may write it off as childish, but If you strive for more, and constantly wish to break your limits than the story of Jonathan Livingston Seagull will no doubt touch you.

If you allow yourself to be carried away by the high-flying optimism of Jonathan Livingston Seagull you're in for a magical journey of heart and mind.

The text is dense and not too suitable for the close reading it requires. This is rated as one of the best text on the subject. Notations of sources abound after every chapter. Has to be very dated (2013); a new edition is weeks away. I am using this for a college class. The instructor has power point presentations for each chapter, which helps as you cannot complete the reading adequately.

Putting Thoughts in their Point and Place in Time

This solid sociological text reviews each of the major players in Classical Sociological thought. What's interesting is how each of the thinkers is given context in their life and times.

Also, this book did a lot to undo the mis-teaching of Marx and Durkheim that I had experienced with earlier instructors. This book is worth reading for those chapters alone.

Thorough but unreadable

This textbook is very thorough but some of the writing style is so unnecessarily obtuse that it is frustrating to the college student, which is its audience. The difference between the two authors seems to be apparent in the clarity of the writing. I was left guessing which author I found readable and which one I didn't. Although I continue to use this text, I am always looking out for an alternative. Even I, the professor, have to go to secondary sources to see what the author is trying to say.

Looking forward to more from Logan

This was a good and creepy sci-fi read from what seems to be a new author, and I'm looking forward to seeing more from him in the near future. Logan shows a unique ability to paint vivid pictures of his characters and their situations with his use of well placed metaphors and naturally flowing dialogue. I would recommend it to anyone looking to get into a new, young author of fiction. A few days after my read and some of the scenes are still running through my head. Nice work!

I would definitely recommend this to any horror fan. Very vivid writing, great character work and a sharp concept. It reminded me of an updated twist on the blob or any of the old horror movies. Expect a turbulent, violent ride. My only complaint is with editing. There are a good number of typos, but the story and the quality of writing was definitely worth it!

Terror With Typos

I haven't finished Skin yet (although I will). The writer is talented and has a knack for creating tension and suspense. But this book is KILLING me with the typos and misspellings. I've come to accept that we'll encounter a few in self-published works, but at a certain point (say, the 50th example) it starts to feel like an insult to the reader.

I'm a writer and we all make mistakes. But before a book goes to market it's important to make it as error free as possible (usually through hiring a proofreader to bring fresh eyes to the manuscript). And unlike printed books, an ebook can actually be corrected after a purchase has been made. I hope Mr. Logan will do that, as his writing deserves better than this sloppy presentation.
