Sold into sex trade...

Wow. I actually paid for this??? Do not under any circumstance make the same mistake. A 24 year straight laced girl gets sold into sex trade by her boss. Then is beaten and abused by everyone she encounters for 4 days. Her owner is a big bad biker/gangster who thinks he is the girls hero because he choses not to rape her. The author then expects the reader to believe that the slave falls in love with her owner and sails off into the sunset with him. This story starts out strong then takes a turn onto Waist of Time Blvd. I am very disappointed.

Least romantic romance ever

This was the most violent and depressing romance book I've ever read. I enjoy biker romances, erotic romances, whatever. But I read them all for the eventual happy ending. How this could be considered a HEA is beyond me. Sex trade, dog fights, endless murder and violence, total poor excuses for people. And what woman has sex or shows any interest in it whatsoever right after attempted rape? The whole romance occurred over just a few days. The whole book's premise was beyond ridiculous. And then to top it off, the HEA consists of running away and leaving everything behind for a killer and womanizer that our female lead was given to as property. Freaking dumb. Don't waste your money. Even if your a fan of biker romances, there are better ones out there.

I enjoyed this book a lot

I read some of the reviews from the other readers before I purchased this story. The reviews were mixed. Since I was not sure what to think I purchased the story. Now, first of all this is not a bdsm story, there is no bdsm except for some light spanking during 1 sex scene and the first sex scene doesn't even happen till about 75% into the story. The story is about human trafficking but it's really just a side story, there's no real story involvement about it in the book. There's no rape scenes of any kind however you know that's what's happening due to the perceived notion that any girl kidnapped and put in a sex club will be raped, but the author doesn't write any scenes about it. The main male character (Beast) is forced into the motorcycles club human trafficking side without his consent, but is trying to get out. Beast is not into any of the forced bondage stuff and refuses to participate, he doesn't do anything to the girl but protect her. Other readers reviews said the story was not believable but I disagree and anyway, if u want believable stories you shouldn't read fiction because by definition fiction is not real, but rather imaginary. This is a love story with a few ruff necks, bad ass's and bad guys thrown in. With that said I do want to say that I am sick and tired of ALL these female authors, including Celia Loren and Colleen Masters making every female character out to be a fumbling, "oh I can't do this", "oh let me think if I should use the gun I have in my hand to shoot the killer who's getting ready to shoot my boyfriend", idiot that can't survive the ordeal without a man to protect
them! Thank you, I feel better for getting that off my chest.

√ I Got Book to Give Away, but I'm Keeping it

If you like time travel books--and especially if you like historical fiction, you will love RUSH REVERE AND THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION. It's certainly a patriotic book, but not a political book, in the modern sense. It doesn't matter your political persuasion--this is just a fun, good read--great for kids, or in my case, grown-up kids.

A small gang of youthful Patriots, led by this funny man with a big head, called Rush Revere, go jumping back into time to explore events around the American Revolution. They usually get to the time and place they want, but Liberty the horse sometimes jumps off a bit.

I especially like the accompanying artwork. Some of the artwork are original illustrations, but others are actual photographs of important historical sites.

Although the book is very light-hearted, some of the photographs reveal what life was really like back then. For example, the picture of a surgeon's saw was very sobering.

All in all, RUSH REVERE AND THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION is a very creative book, making history come alive in an exciting and unique way. Honestly, I had no idea how I missed this series. This book is funny, original, and just a fascinating read. Highly recommend!

Learning American History Made Fun

I smiled and nodded. "Sounds perfect." And it was."
So ends "Rush Revere and the American Revolution."
But to understand the possibilities of the next installment one has to read the book which I did.
Anyone who has a love of history, especially American colonial history will enjoy this book. The perspective is new and innovative which as with all good fiction requires the reader to suspend disbelief as you follow the adventures of a talking Horse Liberty and Rush Revere who with a time travelling crew can jump back or forward into time. In addition there is a subtle salute to our veterans and their families that is blended into the story
In this book it so happens that Liberty and Rush and the time travelling crew have jumped right in the middle of my favorite time and place in American history - Boston, Massachusetts on the verge of the American Revolution. I thoroughly enjoyed this book with its quirkily delightful characters that share their humor and insights on American history. I think it will stimulate young people to read and study history. I only wish this book had been around when I was young. I would have learned that I love to study history at much earlier than I did.
And may I suggest the next adventure. It would be easy for Liberty and Rush since they were just a few blocks away from the place and time because the location is the Common House about a block away from the Old South Church. Again it will be cold and dangerous because it is early November 1772 and there is a riot going on outside on King Street. Inside seated on a chair surrounded by 18 of Boston's most distinguished men is a young 18 year old African American slave. These men are all dumbfounded as they listen to her answer the questions posed to her as she defends the thesis that she is the sole and true author of a manuscript of poems. They have never seen an African American who has written poetry. The stakes are high for her and her "jury" for her challenge is to convince them what she says is true so that her poems can be published and she would then become the first African American woman to publish a book of poetry.

All three of the Rush Revere are great stories. Any child who can read should have the entire set. They will find the stories captivating. As a senior whose five children went through public school system, I am proud to admit that I truly enjoyed these books and would have jumped at the chance to have had them available to give our children and shared them with their friends. Though they have grown to be good constitution believers, they would have benefited from the knowledge that Mr. Llimbaugh gives in his books. I hear he is in process of writing the fourth book!
I am taking the set with me to Georgia for my eleven year old granddaughter.

A classic scented adventure which makes this book the perfect place to escape reality and feel within you, the anguish and despair of the hero while facing the challenges he is presented with. This book smoothly blends emotion and tension when faced with the challenge to survive, but also the psychological degradation of the protagonist throughout the story and an in-depth study on the environment, the animals, the plants as well as the people, that the author carried out. It also teaches us that our perception of where our limits lie are usually wrong, sometimes for better and sometimes for worse.

About the Author

Javier Salazar Calle was born in Madrid on July 29, 1976. He is majored in Business Administration and Computer Engineering and has always worked in the banking world. When he was younger he mostly wrote short stories, but later moved on to the world of micro-stories, two of which have been published in two competitions (V Contest of micro-stories about lawyers and Fantasti'CS 2013). One of his poems has also been published in the anthology "Versos desde el coraz�n" (Verses from the heart).

"Ndura. Son of the forest" is his first book (voted best young adult fiction for 2014) and he has just published his second book "LinkedIn for employees, companies and entrepreneurs" and a third one is on its way, which would have more of a Noir Fiction genre.

He is characterized by the versatility of the topics he addresses and by the prior meticulous investigation labor he carries out before writing his books.

It should go without saying that works of fiction are the products of dreams. Someone has a mental
and/or emotional image of an outcome and from that image a work of some type is created. Rarely is
that work presented as the dream itself, and rarer still is the dreamer the sole protagonist. Yet, Javier
Salazar Calle has done exactly that in Ndura, the Son of the Forest. I have to admit that reading a work proclaimed by the author from the beginning to be a dream derived from the time just before sleep is a strange feeling and one that having read the work still will not leave me. The difference between this work and most works of fiction is that this is told as a first person narrative of a personal experience that constantly struggles between normal anxiety, objective observation and outright panic.

So, what if you were a passenger in an aircraft targeted by a ground-to-air missile flying over the
equatorial jungle of central Africa near the border of the Congo, Uganda and the Sudan? What if rebels killed or enslaved any surviving passengers; what if you saw your two best friends killed one in the crash, one by the rebels, while you managed to escape into the jungle? Thus, the stage is set for the author’s imagination and extensive research into central Africa forest flora and fauna, the Pigmy people and his idea of what his reactions would be if he were actually experiencing being marooned for a number of days in a central African forest. The rest is the tale of the trek itself, starvation, fatigue, ants, mosquitoes, snakes and misery.

My mind wandered away from the story as I read; after all, this was a dream, the story wasn’t
happening. I use my imagination to immerse myself into the action and to identify with the characters in the stories I read. Therefore, the action should count for something. When you’re told from the beginning that the story is only a dream, I’m sorry, I can’t get into it. Nevertheless, aside from a few, but apparent editing errors, the story was well written and effectively conveyed the anxiety, panic, and other emotions he was striving to achieve in the reader. Because of the emotions his descriptions evoked and because he included a glossary of Swahili and Pigmy words used in the story,
I felt four-stars were appropriate.

An Amazing Story

Ndura Son of the Forest
I could feel, smell, and hear the forest setting in this amazing story. This is the type of book that is hard to put down. Javier Salazar Calle does an incredible job of enticing the reader to read more without stopping until the story is finished. Because this is a translated version of the story, a few errors of English syntax caught my attention. These were so few that the thrill of the story was never compromised. Every chapter is filled with adventures and enigmas of how to sustain life in a place that has enormous challenges. I was fascinated by how the main character learns to survive in the forest by carefully observing and experimenting. His perseverance was admirable. The definitions that were included at the bottom of the pages made reading this book educational as well as entertaining. I highly recommend this book. This reader gives Ndura Son of the Forest
five stars.

Beautifully written book

This is a beautifully written book which evocatively brings to life the struggle to survive in the African forest. The plant life, animals and the forest itself are brought vividly to life with the author's careful, sensitive descriptions. It is very easy to imagine yourself walking each step in the narrator's shoes. For anyone who likes to imagine themself on an epic, challenging adventure, this is the book for you. The book is a translation from it's original Spanish and sometimes the choice of language seems a little odd, but it is still very readable and enjoyable.

A Prescription for Better Living

I grew up with my mom’s daily meditation book on an end table in our living room. The spine was broken, pages browned, a tasseled bookmark showed the date as reliably as my iPhone. She still reads it every day.

"The Daily Stoic: 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Daily Living" is the meditation book my son will remember, the one I'll read every day. It's now on my end table with a red ribbon marking the season.

The Daily Stoic isn’t simply a book to make me think, it’s an action guide, a “prescription for handling ourselves and our actions in the world.” The great Stoics remind me never to be satisfied with learning--I must always be doing. In order to lead a successful life, I must practice cutting through distractions and desires to get to things that matter.

That’s the only way to become a better human being. That’s the call to action I’m getting from this book--you will, too.

In "The Daily Stoic," Stephen Hanselman and Ryan Holiday have curated works by the great Stoic philosophers--Epictetus, Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, weaving in modern thinkers and situations I can use immediately. Each month has a specific theme such as clarity, right action, duty, awareness, and problem solving. Lessons build on prior themes, creating an easy-to-use teaching tool out of philosophers that can often be overwhelming.

I love this book for its excellent translations and applicable life lessons. Each meditation has just enough to challenge me and help me feel I can put the thoughts into action today.

Ancient Wisdom, Modern Translation.

In "The Daily Stoic", Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman have complied for you some timeless gems of the great Stoic thinkers, added some modern translation and apportioned them as a daily meditations.

You'll find this is particularly fitting; as developing an elevated mode of thinking is a practice, not a product.

There's an obvious temptation to plunge ahead, but the greater reward is in savoring the lesson rather than devouring the text.

As Heraclitus would point out:

"No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man."

Accordingly, the book gives you a chance to renew your thinking daily with some of the greatest thinkers of all time.

What a great way for you to spend a year.

Ryan Holiday is a best-selling author (“Trust Me I’m Lying,” “Ego is the Enemy,” “The Obstacle is the Way”) and a blogger. He brands himself as someone focused on life, dealing with idiots, how to be self-critical and self-aware, humility, philosophy, reading and strategy.

I became aware of Holliday when I read and reviewed his thoughtful and helpful book “The Obstacle is the Way.” It is a book about stoicism, the ancient Greek philosophy and its principles, which has sold more than 100,000 copies and has been translated into 17 languages. Stoicism is an ancient Hellenistic philosophic school founded in Athens that promoted the daily management of self. It teaches 1) that virtue, the highest good, is based on knowledge, and 2) that the wise live in harmony with the divine Reason (also identified with Fate and Providence) that governs nature. These principles are indifferent to the vicissitudes of fortune and to pleasure and pain.

Some will be familiar to readers, others will not:

o Seize life and take advantage of it.
o If you seek tranquility, do less.
o It can ruin your life only if it ruined your character. Otherwise, it cannot harm you – inside or out.
o Do what we can, endure and bear what we must.
o None of what we do lasts, no matter how clever or brilliant.
o So if we throw out other people’s recognition, what is left for us to prize?

Stoics include Marcus Aurelius, Cicero, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Viktor Frankle, Ruben Carter, Ulysses S Grant, Thomas Jefferson, Napoleon, Churchill, Steve Jobs, Seattle Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll, Cub’s Manager Joe Maddon, and thousands more.

In “Daily Stoic,” Holiday provides 366 daily meditations on wisdom, perseverance, and the art of living. He provides a year of quotations and life lessons drawn from the three great Stoic sages -Seneca the Younger, Epictetus (a freed slave) and Emperor Marcus Aurelius. The meditations are organized under three primary topics (similar to those in “The Obstacle is…”) “The Discipline of Perception,” “The Discipline of Action,” and the “Discipline of Will.” Each topic is further divided into monthly themes: “Clarity,” “Passions and Emotions,” “Awareness,” “Unbiased Thought,” “Right Action,” “Problem Solving,” “Duty”“Pragmatism,” “Fortitude and Resilience,” “Virtue and Kindness,” “Acceptance,” and “Meditations on Mortality.”

Paul Tillich noted that Stoicism is “the only real alternative to Christianity in the Western world.” It came to many of the same conclusions about how to think and live. Both are characterized by:

 An emphasis on hardship.
 A sense of man’s depravity and a constant self-examination
 An inner freedom from the world.
 An aversion to excess.

The goal of Stoicism is to attain inner peace. The meditations of the “Daily Stoic” can be a help in overcoming adversity, practicing self-control, being conscious of our impulses, realizing how short life is and making the most of it. The principles within Stoicism are, perhaps, the most relevant and practical sets of rules for those who choose to embrace the obstacles of life. They are the tools that are immediately practical to our current endeavors.

Thought-provoking, soul-searching exercises are included with each daily meditation. “The Daily Stoic” is an excellent way to begin or end each day.
