About the Author

Richard M. Perloff, Professor of Communication at Cleveland State University, has been on the faculty at Cleveland State since 1979. He has written scholarly textbooks on persuasion, political communication, and the communication of AIDS prevention. Dr. Perloff is a nationally-known expert on the third-person effect, the divergent perceptions of mass media impact on others and the self. From 2003 to 2011, he served as chair and the first director of the School of Communication at Cleveland State. Perloff enjoys teaching undergraduate persuasion, graduate persuasion, and political communication courses at Cleveland State. He is a Fellow of the Midwest Association for Public Opinion Research, writes feature stories for Cleveland weekly newspapers, and has received city and state-wide journalism awards for his work. He lives in Beachwood, Ohio with his family, is an early morning swimmer, and newspaper-with- coffee aficionado.

great overview of theories of persuasion

I have used this book and its previous edition in a graduate-level course in strategic communications. It has been a perennial favorite with my students and I have heard from several who I advise for their theses projects that they refer back to it to refresh their memories on relevant theories of persuasion. I have yet to see a text that covers such a range of theories and that presents them (and their critiques) in such a comprehensive way. An appropriate text for upper-level undergrad or grad courses.

Great book on the basics of persuasion.

This book is easy to read and understand. The concepts are backed up with studies and real-world examples, not too much speculation and theorizing. There is so much thought-provoking material, it really stands out for a textbook. In fact, this is one of the best textbooks I have ever seen.
Want to persuade people in everyday life? This isn't a bad place to start learning about it. You'll get an overview of dozens and dozens of ways to become more persuasive, why they work, and examples of how to use them.

A Wonderful Textbook

I teach a course in social influence at a local university, and this is the textbook that I like to use. Some of my students think it is overly dense, but a textbook isn't supposed to read like a novel. It has a great range of information, and is written from a communications, rather than a psychological, perspective. I find it highly readable and accurate, and love the section on propaganda. I hope a second edition will be available soon.

DON'T BUY THIS. HORRIBLE QUALITY!

This is a great book. Amazon's 'look inside' showed some wonderful color pictures and charts, but thats not the book I received.
The book is all black and white text, with pages so thin you can see the print on the other side. Paid over $200 for a photocopied version of a book, except i don't think you can buy photocopy paper this crappy. Save you money and download a pdf.

Whatever You Do is book two in Try again series by Stephanie Smith. Well Stephanie grabs you pulls you into the book. It is sweet, sexy and very passionate. The characters are unique and they become a part of you.

We meet Brook and Saxon in book one, which was an emotional story about loss, grief, and letting the past go and learning how to love again. In addition, they are going strong in this book.

Harper worked at Argo the company that Brook and Saxon use to own as a receptionist. She is fired from her job and decides to go to her boyfriend’s apartment since it was close by when she gets there she is in for a shock he is in bed with someone else. She is upset and does not want to go home so she goes and visits Brook who offers her a job and she accepts.

Harper then decides to try on line dating since all the men she meets or dates just wants to sleep with her and everyone else. She meets her first two dates at a Cafe where she runs into Tate. She thinks Tate is a player and just like all the guys, she dated before.

Will Harper find a keeper instead of a player? Is Tate an actual player?

Tate Washington is a sexy tattooed man that was not looking to meet anyone. He was still dealing with the consequences of his one serious relationship; all he’s interested in is revamping his family’s behind-the-times caf�. He never thought he would see the beautiful secretary he nicknamed Daisy, but then she walked into his life again to use his caf� for her dates from her on line dating.

Can he convince her to go out with him and maybe have a life with him?

I know that Harper was hurt in the past and had trust issues but sometimes I just wanted to pull her hair out and scream at her she is a very Independent and strong willed woman who just needed to take a breather and see what was right in front of her.

I highly recommend this book but please read the first one in this series so you will be caught up on all the characters.

thoughts on whatever you do

This had some hysterical moments. Each date that Harper had were so funny they will have you crying from laughing so hard. the one good one was when she finally realizes Tate is what she wants even after fighting it completely.

Tate is the sweet kind guy who didn’t deserve to be judged the way Harper did. this was the one thing about Harper that got to me-she judged Tate based on her past relationships and than continued to do so even after they got together. She never quite trusted him. Never quite thought he was true to his word and loved her. She almost ruins a good thing for her pride and wanting to be stuck in her past. Tate never gave her a reason not to believe in him. Harper for half the book is what she claims she isn’t-she is judging Tate without giving him a chance and justifying it because of her past experiences saying he is just like the others.

You feel for Tate because he sits there and watches Harper continuously go on these horrible dates and supporting her along the way. Even after he thinks she finally will give him a chance she goes on a date and that hurts Tate but he being the kind and sweet guy he is understands due to her past and accepts what she did. Even after instead of listening to him as to why he was having lunch with a woman she ran away he waited for her and explained. Even after she did what she did at the end he understood. This is a sweet understanding guy. harper in some ways deserved him but others not because of how she continuously lumped him with her past.

This is the story of harper letting go of the past and finding love.

A fun sweet romance that will have you laughing at her online date meets, smiling at tate and his romantic and sweet understanding ways.

If you were to look up the definition of BAD LUCK in the dictionary, next to it you would find a picture of Harper. She's got a rock chick type of vibe to her from her short black bob to her eccentric, yet fashionable clothing choices. Harper is fiercely loyal to her friends and loved ones, but she's also pretty sensitive. And she has the worst luck ever.

In the beginning of Whatever You Do, I did get a little confused. We went from her working with her closest friends at a company that her friend owned to the next chapter her getting fired from said company by someone else. It is all eventually explained, but I think it should have been done in the beginning.
Now let me get to the mysterious yet sinful Tate. We meet him in the very beginning when he delivers lunch to Harper and her friends. He's immediately drawn to her. He's very flirtatious and ca come across as a playboy, but once you get to know him, he'll win you over with his endless charm and boyish good looks.
Both he and Harper have been hurt in the past and try to keep themselves guarded. Tate wants nothing more than for Harper to give him a chance, but she's reluctant. After a series of horrible online dating attempts, she finally relents, hoping this isn't something that will ruin the great friendship that has formed.
I loved this story once I got past the beginning. Some of these guys that Harper went on dates with truly just amazed me. They were horrible. Once she gave Tate a chance, she realized what she was missing. I just hate that it was so hard for her to trust him. I know her past would make anyone a little jaded, but sometimes you just have to take life by the horns and hold on.
All in all, I loved the chemistry between them and how he wasn't willing to take no for an answer and let her get away. This is truly a romance that will have you smiling and happy that these two were happy and willing to give love another chance.

Interesting Twist

After reading part 1 of this book, I said that I was not going to be reading part 2 because of all the grammar errors that were in the book.. But because I found myself curious about what happened to Shoniique, her sister, and Murk I decided to read this book. This book is way better than part one. The plot is the same but there are a lot of surprising twist and turns. There are still grammar errors in this book but it's not as bad as before. One thing that kind of bothers me about this book is that some of the situations seem unbelievable. To sum this up, this book is better than the first, I am planning on reading the next book, and finally with more careful editing this author will go far. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy reading Urban Literature.

I had lost my hardback copy of this book some years ago and always wished I had it back. But I decided to cheap-out and go with this re-print. Too bad. The original book is absolutely beautiful, and this one is terrible looking. It IS, not looks like, IS a bad photocopy. Get a better version.

I have bought this title for use as a reference book, as I am undertaking honey bee studies. So far I have found it to be very informative and there is certainly no doubt the the Author certainly knew his subject intimately. A very worthwhile purchase, this book is going to be well read.

Amazing Illustrations

For me, the primary draw to "Anatomy of the Honey Bee" is the illustrations. Carefully handdrawn honey bee stingers may not be your cup of tea, but I find them fascinating to look at. H.R. Giger has nothing on this stuff. The very idea that there are people in the world that are so infinitely (I dare not say "intimately") familiar with these insects is mindboggling.
The text is interesting as well, but I've never read it straight through. I find it
more fruitful to think of the text as extended captions to the amazing illustrations.
